  • Student leadership and enrichment opportunities including Student Council, UIL Academics, Honor Choir, and campus clubs like Running Club, Basketball Club, and Chess Club
  • A strong focus on consistent communication through biweekly newsletters, Remind messages, Skyward updates, grade-level news, and marquee announcements
  • Family engagement through PTA, Eagle Eyes volunteers, and events such as Literacy Night, Math & Science Night, and the 5th Grade Dance

Our History

Built in 1959, Gililland Elementary was originally known as Blue Mound Elementary. It was renamed to honor the campus’s first principal, Lonnie A. Gililland. With decades of service to the Blue Mound community, Gililland is one of EMS ISD’s original five elementary campuses. The school has seen many updates over time, including expansion projects such as the Perkins Wing, gym, and cafeteria additions. Today, Gililland serves approximately 500 students and remains a pillar of academic and community pride.

The Community We Serve

We proudly serve the students of Blue Mound City, where approximately 76.5% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Gililland is a Title I campus that supports a high percentage of English Language Learners and Special Education students, with a focus on equitable access and student achievement.

Our feeder campuses include:
  • Highland Middle School
  • Prairie Vista Middle School
  • Saginaw High School
Together, we are helping Eagles soar by preparing every student to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
